It made my heart bleed to leave Arcetri. I was young, and I knew that there be other periods of productive work and rich experience in my life. I also knew that there would never be another time with that special flavour of my years in the Florentine hills. Bruno Rossi
The Hill of Galileo project is an agreement between the University of Florence and the research institutes operating on the historical hill of Arcetri. These are the Department of Physics and Astronomy (UNIFI), the Galileo Galilei Institute for Theoretical Physics (UNIFI and INFN), the National Institute of Optics (CNR) and the Astrophysics Observatory of Arcetri (INAF). Aim of this agreement is to promote the hill of Arcetri as a location of excellence for holding meetings and conferences, also taking the opportunity to use the prestigious and evocative location of Villa il Gioiello, where Galileo spent the last part of his life.
The hill of Arcetri has been recently designated by the European Physical Society as "EPS historical site", for his considerable historical and scientific interest.
